conde nast traveler readers vote ancient Cedars spa at the wickaninnish inn as canada's #1 year-round spa

May 24, 2011

Ancient Cedars Spa at Tofino's Wickaninnish Inn www.wickinn.com has been voted the top year-round Resort Spa in Canada in the 2011 Spa Poll from luxury travel authority, Condé Nast Traveler.

"This is testament to our team’s ongoing engagement with the wishes and needs of spa-goers” says Charles McDiarmid, Managing Director of the Wickaninnish Inn.  Frequent inquiries for a treatment indigenous to Vancouver Island’s rugged west coast inspired Spa Manager, Miranda Moore, to consult local members of the Nuu chah nulth First Nations, such as Gisele Martin of Tla-ook Cultural Adventures about ancient customs that could be incorporated into a spa treatment.  Extensive research and trials yielded the Hishuk Ish Tsawalk Awakening Treatment, using techniques gleaned from traditional cleansing ceremonies of these peoples still inhabiting areas in and around Tofino.  An extensive spa menu includes various Signature Treatments, results-driven skincare, thalassotherapy and esthetics, offered by a team of internationally-trained spa professionals.

Ancient Cedars Spa is pleased to rank in the Condé Nast Traveler Top Ten Resort Spas - Canada rankings with five fellow BC spas, including the King Pacific Lodge, ranked #1 overall in Canada, Whistler’s Four Seasons Resort and the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.  In 2008, Ancient Cedars Spa was voted upon as the #1 Resort Spa worldwide by the readers of Travel + Leisure.

About the Conde Nast Traveler 2011 Spa Poll:

Condé Nast Traveler’s 2011 spa poll results were derived from its 2010 Readers’ Choice survey, whose questionnaire was available through a secure web site. Tabulation of the survey’s 25,916 responses was done by Global Market Insite, Inc., of Marlborough, Massachusetts. Spas were rated excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor on three criteria: Spa facilities, spa staff, and spa treatments. Those criterion scores, representing the percentage of respondents who rated a spa excellent or very good, were averaged to determine the final rating for the spa.
