Tofino’s Wickaninnish Inn Voted #1 Canadian Resort in Travel + Leisure Magazine 2010 World’s Best Awards

July 23, 2010

(Tofino, BC) Travel + Leisure Magazine, the read of choice for sophisticated and connected travelers, has released the results of its 2010 World’s Best Travel Awards, in which readers rate preferred destinations and tourism operators, including hotels, resorts, and airlines. The Wickaninnish Inn is thrilled to revisit the top spot (#1) among all Canadian accommodation properties (after last holding this position in 2008), and was voted the #4 Resort in USA/Canada. Check out the August issue for the full listing or click here for a sneak preview.

Questionnaires were available in Travel + Leisure Magazine and online at www.TLWorldsBest.com from December 2009 through March 2010, inviting voters to rate hotels on their facilities, location, service, restaurants, and overall value. The magazine praises “duvet-covered beds and deep soaking tubs beside floor-to-ceiling windows” and a guided week-end nature walk, enjoyed year-round. What was the tipping point for making the Wickaninnish Inn the #1 resort in Canada? Managing Director, Charles McDiarmid, is a strong believer that “our dedicated service team combined with our ongoing commitment to quality and constant improvement are the two critical elements to our ongoing strong performance over many years. We always aim to create an outstanding guest experience whether it’s your first visit or one of many cherished vacations to the Inn and Tofino”.

The Inn is joined in these prestigious rankings by fellow Relais & Châteaux resorts on both sides of the border: The Post Hotel (Lake Louise, Alberta), is the #2 Canadian Resort, while the Little Nell (Aspen, Colorado), Auberge du Soleil (Rutherford, California), and Blackberry Farm (Walland, Tennessee), all appear within the Top 50 Resorts in the USA/Canada.

The Wickaninnish Inn, perched on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island near Tofino, has been a Relais & Châteaux member property since 1997. A year-round destination exemplifying "rustic elegance on nature's edge", the Inn is owned and operated by the McDiarmid family of Tofino, and is exclusively located on beautiful Chesterman Beach. Each of the 75 oceanfront guest rooms and suites welcome guests with a gas fireplace, soaker tub, locally-created art, an individual balcony and of course a beach or ocean viewscape. The Wickaninnish Inn is home to The Pointe Restaurant and Ancient Cedars Spa, voted "Best Spa Overall" in 2008 by the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine.
