Enjoying the Tofino Food & Wine Festival
At the Wickaninnish Inn

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Each year the foodies, grey whales, wine aficionados and travelers flock to Tofino to enjoy all that Clayoquot Sound has to offer during the Annual Tofino Food and Wine Festival, from June 3rd to 6th 2010.

Launching the Food and Wine Festival with their annual winemaker’s dinner, the Wickaninnish Inn’s Food and Beverage team will be hosting Sandhill winemaker, Howard Soon as he shares his message on wines with guests of the Inn, and comments on how best to appreciate a fine glass. Howard Soon has been creating flavorful wines since 1980 when he moved to the Okanagan to begin his winemaking career. Since those early beginnings, Sandhill and Soon have won over 200 awards in provincial, national and international competitions, including the 2009 Canadian Winery of the Year.

Winemaker Soon will work with the Wickaninnish Inn hosts to create two unique experiences. On the afternoon of Friday, June 4, Soon will lead a Wine Tasting Seminar featuring five Sandhill wines. Following the tasting will be the traditional Winemaker's Dinner where the culinary expertise of Chefs John Waller and Nicolas Nutting will be paired with delightful wines from Small Lots collections of Sandhill.

By bundling the Winemaker’s Dinner with a charmed vacation at the Wick into one package, the reservations team at the Inn is ready to welcome guests with the Tofino Food and Wine Festival Package. This two night package is available to guests arriving on June 3rd or 4th, starting at $1192.00 (CDN), based on double occupancy.

The Wickaninnish Inn, perched on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island near Tofino, has been a Relais & Chateaux member property since 1997. A year-round destination exemplifying "rustic elegance on nature's edge", the Inn is owned and operated by the McDiarmid family of Tofino, and is the only resort located on beautiful Chesterman Beach. Each of the 75 oceanfront guest rooms and suites welcome guests with a gas fireplace, soaker tub, locally-created art, and an individual balcony. The Wickaninnish Inn is home to The Pointe Restaurant and Ancient Cedars Spa, voted "Best Spa Overall" in 2008 by the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine.
