The Henry Nolla Gallery Welcomes Sheryl Sawchuk
We are pleased to welcome artist Sheryl Sawchuk to the Henry Nolla Gallery! Be sure to stop by the Driftwood Cafe on the beach level of our Beach Building and enjoy Sawchuk's paintings of breathtaking scenes from across Vancouver Island.
Vancouver Island artist Sheryl Sawchuk was born and raised in Saskatchewan, and started drawing when she was barely old enough to hold a crayon. Drawing and artwork remained a constant creative outlet in her life throughout school and as a hobby as she entered the workforce. Pursuing another passion of health and fitness, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and became an Exercise Therapist with the Saskatoon Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. After a few years the travel bug bit and she moved to Sapporo, Japan where she taught English for two years. While in Japan she continued large amounts of drawing and sketching, inspired by the fascinating culture around her. Upon return to Canada she decided to devote herself more seriously to painting, and took steps toward reaching that goal.
In 2003 she moved to Nanaimo and began painting full time, she mainly paints in oils but also occasionally works in acrylics, watercolours, or coloured pencil. She takes her inspiration from nature, amazing Vancouver Island offers another beautiful scene every time you turn your head and Sheryl enjoys painting everything from panoramic scenes to close up details of plants, waves, or whatever catches her eye. She enjoys taking part in juried shows and festivals, meeting so many other artists, artisans and art lovers brings her great happiness.
Her artwork is a celebration of the beauty and joy in life.
