A Note From Charles - December 2024
Article Information & Social Sharing
With the solstice soon upon us, I’m reminded of how the winter season encourages us to pause and look back with appreciation at the year that has passed. 2024 has been a wonderful one for us here at the Wickaninnish Inn—one full of growth, connection, and celebration. We’ve had the joy of welcoming many new team members and reconnecting with familiar ones, and the collaborative work of our team has been a true testament to the spirit of care and hospitality that defines us.
Our Summer Crab Cookouts made a triumphant return, bringing back the tradition of coming together to savour the ocean's bounty al fresco. Our gallery was also a bright spot this year, filled with vibrant works from our local artists. The collections featured in our gallery have never been more well-received, and we’re thrilled to see so many guests taking home pieces that capture the essence and beauty of the West Coast.

We were also honoured with several prestigious accolades this year, reinforcing our commitment to excellence. Among them, we received recognition as a Forbes VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality property, earned the Two Keys designation from the MICHELIN Guide 2024, and were named the #1 Resort in the USA & Canada in the 2024 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards. We are grateful to every one of you who has supported us, and we celebrate these recognitions with our incredible team, who make all of this possible.
Beyond the Inn, the West Coast Sustainable Tourism Association (WCSTA) distributed over $250,000 in funding raised in 2023 to several meaningful local and regional projects. The Wickaninnish Inn, a founding member, contributes funds directly through our 1% sustainability fee program. Notably, the WCSTA contributed to the roof replacement of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65, a community hub for gatherings and the arts, and supported the renovation and improvements of the Clayoquot Sound Theatre, soon to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The association also helped fund a Youth Mentorship Program through Ha’oom Fisheries, which seeks to enhance the skills and knowledge of fishers and deckhands by integrating modern techniques with the traditional fishing practices of First Nations. These are just a handful of the projects supported by the WCSTA that work to strengthen the fabric of the local community, and we are looking forward to continuing this program in 2025 and the years beyond.
Looking to the New Year, we’ll be taking a brief pause for our Annual Closure from January 2 to February 7. While the Inn will remain closed to guests for this period as we refresh, tweak and polish for another wonderful year ahead, our guest services team remain just a phone call away to assist with bookings and plans for your next visit.
As we close out this year, I want to thank each of you for being part of our journey. We are so grateful for your continued support and for the privilege of sharing this special place with you.
Wishing you a peaceful, joyful holiday season filled with warmth and connection.
Warmly,
Charles
