Greetings to a most welcome summer, and welcome back to the world!

This time of year always brings us out into nature and brings us together in many activities. Having just watched spring bloom into summertime here on the coast, I couldn’t be more excited for the warm golden days ahead. We are thrilled to have you once again, our guests, our friends and extended family returning to stay with us to explore our forest trails, wide-open beaches, and our active little community of Tofino.

I am also delighted to report that our BC Restart Plan is going very well, with cases continuing to decrease while immunizations continue to rise every day by leaps and bounds. Dr. Bonnie Henry, our Public Health Officer and our Health Minister Adrian Dix announced our successful entry into Step 2, and we were able to welcome back all residents of British Columbia on June 15th as planned. As we continue to see encouraging signs in our collective efforts to bring about the end of this pandemic, we are looking forward to welcoming all Canadian residents on July 1st, which will be a very happy day indeed. We believe that shortly to follow, the federal government will announce a plan that will see our international border reopen to all our friends south of the 49th parallel and across the pond as well.

We are greeting this season with excitement all around, and I am delighted for all June has in store for us at the Inn, and in the community. First, I am pleased to share that the Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art opened its doors on June 13th. This new artscape invites visitors to experience an intimate gallery with thoughtfully curated artwork that celebrates local and regional Canadian contemporary artists.

We were also thrilled to have celebrated World Ocean Day on June 8th with over 200 Relais & Chateaux chefs around the globe sharing our commitment to supporting a sustainable ocean economy, as well as paying homage to the mighty ocean we look out upon.

We are always honoured to be a part of the Relais & Chateaux family and share company with our spectacular neighbour properties on Western Canada’s Route du Bonheur. It truly is an exhilarating wilderness that surrounds us. Whether you are exploring the ancient forests, rugged coastlines, or wild mountain ranges, these magnificent landscapes promise the escape, adventure, awe and relaxation for which so many search and we have been so fortunate to call home.

There is something quite special about this summer season in particular that I should mention; it’s our 25th summer since the Wickaninnish Inn first opened its abalone in-laid and hand-adzed doors to our very first guests in 1996. After twenty-five summers together, I am deeply grateful for these golden days spent here on the west coast, together with our stellar and incredibly talented teams, and with you: our guests.
