There’s a lull after (Canadian) Thanksgiving that soothes the extroverted activity in Tofino. On the surface it may appear that the town has dozed off, but if you stand still for a moment you’ll notice there’s still a lively hum of people—maybe sporting rain gear now—with a moment to say hello.

The temperature is cooling, but not cold, and the locals pace has followed suit. However, this is simply the calm before the next storm… or many! Remember, we are on the brink of storm watching season, a favourite time to observe the power of the elements. Bundle up and watch from shore, or come get cozy and look out from a perch here at the Wickaninnish Inn.

If you’re adventurous you can get right into the waves on a surfboard (on the smaller days, of course)! Just make sure you have a thick winter wetsuit, hood, gloves and booties, and come by the Driftwood Cafe for a hot cocoa after or a steam and massage at the Ancient Cedars Spa.

With the inclement weather at this time of year, the bakeries and restaurants in town have a compulsive draw. The shops are open and busy, too, and, while sometimes it feels sudden or too early, they’re starting to put out ideas for Christmas. That’s right: Christmas is coming! If you haven’t planned for the upcoming holidays, it might be a good idea to start now. We will have plenty of cheer at the Wickaninnish Inn, and we love to see new and returning guests spend their time with us. Should gift giving still be on your mind gift certificates are always a very welcome find in anyone’s stocking.
