A Note From Charles - March 2025
Article Information & Social Sharing
Along this rugged coastline, March marks a quiet turning point—measured not by temperature, but by tide, light, and life reawakening after the Winter slumber. With the spring equinox now behind us, daylight stretches a little longer each evening, and the season begins to unfold in subtle, familiar ways.
The first bountiful food source of the new year, herring spawn, has been in full swing this month attracting shorebirds, eagles, sea lions and even whales closer to the shore and signalling a time of arriving abundance in Clayoquot Sound. Frogs begin their chorus, birdsong returns to the forests, and the ocean’s steady rhythm carries a little more energy with each tide.
Spring in Tofino is a time of emergence—when nature begins to celebrate, and the community gradually reawakens after the somnolence of winter. Local businesses open their doors once more, familiar faces reappear, and anticipation builds as we look toward the season ahead. From now through June, events such as Tofino Wine & Dine, the Tofino Jazz Festival, and the Rip Curl Surf Nationals offer fun ways to engage with the culture and creativity that thrive here.

Tofino remains an iconic Canadian destination—a place of extraordinary value not just in experience, but in what it offers the soul. Local markets, wildlife viewing, and beach walks inviting slower moments of calm and reflection. Here, one finds time to pause, reconnect with nature, and discover the treasures of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve destination. Whether it’s a treatment at Ancient Cedars Spa, a moment spent listening to the waves from your balcony, or simply savouring fresh, local bounty at The Pointe Restaurant, each stay is an invitation to slow down and tune in to what is most important to you.

All of these experiences reflect this coastal community’s vibrant, creative and culinary spirit and offer a wonderful way to experience Tofino in its seasonal rhythm. For those looking to visit us this season, we encourage you to plan ahead to ensure your preferred dates, times, and experiences are secured for your arrival. Spring and early summer offer a beautiful window into the richness of life on the west coast—and we would be honoured to welcome you for a first visit, or welcome you back to enjoy all of the improvements, big and small, that await since your last visit with us.
With warmth from the edge of the Pacific,
Charles
