Growing up in Tofino back in the 60’s, one might say my childhood quite resembled that of a Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn character from Mark Twain.

There was no ending to the source of interesting things to do in this wild and natural environment. Long afternoons would be spent on the beach below our house building dams on the small creeks, racing sticks down their currents. Other days would see us exploring the endless forest trails or hiking along the shoreline. Free-range children were the norm back then, and we embraced this lifestyle wholeheartedly without a care in the world.

Though the years have gone by and Tofino has evolved, the essence of this special place is still one and the same, a small town at the end of a long road. The yearning for a taste of free-range living transcends age. Luckily, opportunities abound to embrace a break from the fast-paced digital world and get back to simpler times. With our endless waterways, fishing adventures, and many miles of beaches and rocky shoreline, the Pacific Rim area serves up the chance to embrace the Huckleberry Finn in all of us. In celebration of this, and in hopes of pulling a thread from past to present, I am thrilled to share the stories of Tofino through our new podcast, “A Journey To Nature’s Edge.” We have more episodes on the way, and I look forward to continuing to share nuggets from Tofino’s earlier days with all of you.

Late fall ushers in the ocean’s darker, stormier moods. The Pointe Restaurant is the perfect perch to observe the waves crashing against the rocky shoreline, and as the saying goes, it is always better to be on the inside looking out than the outside looking in on these many stormy days. As a complement to our Storm Season I have always been a fervent believer that storms and single malt scotch were made for each other. It’s in this spirit that we continue to curate an enticing collection of single malt scotches on hand at our On the Rocks Bar at The Pointe Restaurant. For those days where a stroll on the beach leaves you with a chill in your bones, a solid splash of your favourite single malt is guaranteed to warm you up.

As we get back to our normal routines I am happy to advise that, voting is now open for Travel + Leisure’s 2023 World’s Best Awards. I invite you to take a moment and rate your favourite travel experiences hopefully there are one or two from this past year. Be sure to place your votes in support of your most loved hotels, destinations, and more!

Warmest regards as we move into winter and the holiday season,

Charles
