November welcomes storm season’s triumphant return to the coast. As the winds whip through the trees and waves crash against the shore, the captivating energy in the air reminds us of the incredible elemental forces at play outside our windows.

This time of year brings back vivid memories of storms at my childhood home in the first and only house at the very end of the road to Tonquin Beach. I remember nights spent with my siblings as we listened to the branches in the surrounding forest squeaking against each other, the winds howling, and the surf crashing on the beach below, a symphony filling the night air. As a child, it was equal parts thrilling and eerie. Even today, there’s nothing quite like the experience of being nestled indoors, warm and cozy, as the storm rages on outside.

Storm season is truly a wonderful time to visit the Inn to watch Mother Nature’s performance unfold as you sit fireside in your guest room or at our On the Rocks Bar with a warm beverage in hand. Once the winds settle, I highly recommend donning rubber boots and rain gear, which we have on offer for all our guests, to venture out onto Chesterman Beach. Lean into the southeast winds, listen to the crashing waves and watch the storm clouds swirl by as you look up at the large log perched on the rock that washed ashore during a storm two years ago–an impressive reminder of nature’s power.

For guests preferring to stay in, a treatment at the Ancient Cedars Spa is an ideal way to rejuvenate while the storms batter on outside. The Hot Stone Massage lends itself particularly well during this time of year. Should you not have the opportunity to experience the storms in Tofino firsthand this season, you can tune in to our live beachcam to see the beauty of the elements in real time and hear the crashing waves as well.

As we transition into the holiday season, the Inn will soon transform into a winter wonderland. The McDiarmid family has always cherished the holidays, and I have fond childhood memories of eagerly flipping through the Simpson Sears catalogue, dreaming of the treasures we might discover under the tree on Christmas morning. Every December, the festive spirit comes alive as the Inn dons abundant holiday decorations, and we invite visitors and our coastal community to experience the magic of the holidays at our Holiday Light Tour and Food Bank Fundraiser, taking place on Wednesday, December 11.

Whether you seek the thrill of a coastal storm or the warmth of holiday cheer, we look forward to sharing this special time of year with you.

Warm wishes,

Charles
