In the spirit of International Women’s Day celebrated in March, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on Brenda Homick, Director of North American Member Hotels & Restaurants, who has made incredible contributions to the Relais & Châteaux family for three decades.

Drawn to Relais & Châteaux by the idea of these boutique properties, each displaying its unique character with extraordinary cuisine and exhibiting the highest service standards, Brenda was taken by the concept after her very first stay in a Relais. With no prior intention of going into hospitality, her intrigue was piqued by the Association while on a trip to France with her husband. Brenda opted to pursue the opportunity upon hearing Relais & Châteaux was to open an office in New York City. Thirty years later, she continues to display impeccable leadership and creativity within all her endeavours and throughout her many roles with Relais.

One of her more recent accomplishments is the completion of her third book project working with the publishing house Rizzoli: ‘The Art of the Wedding’ - a 2-year project incorporating the creative wedding ideas of 14 featured North American properties, including the Wickaninnish Inn - which was greeted with incredible excitement from brides-to-be at a recent event for the book.

When it comes to women in leadership and business, Brenda believes it is important to seize the professional opportunities that come along. She notes, “Over the years, my position evolved as I was offered new roles, and I always was willing to give them a try, even when I may have had my own doubts. Also, lead by example. Let others see your commitment, hard work and dedication, and perhaps they will be inspired!”

Recounting her first impressions of the Wickanninish Inn, what stuck with her most was the genuine warmth and friendliness of Tofino, along with the awe-inspiring views and how the Inn was designed to maximize the amazing vistas of the surroundings. When asked about a particularly treasured moment at the Inn, Brenda shared a memory from “some years ago, when we had our annual North American meeting at the Inn toward the end of storm watching season. I learned how inviting the Inn can be in all seasons. When you are ensconced inside, watching a majestic storm while sitting by a fireplace and sipping a glass of fine wine, it is a magical moment.”
