Relais & Chateaux Spotlight - Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa
Article Information & Social Sharing
Chewton Glen is a beacon of luxury and tranquillity located at the frontier of Hampshire and Dorset and nestled on the edge of the ancient New Forest National Park, the largest area of heathland in the whole of Europe. With a storied past dating back to the 18th century, this five-star country house hotel is set within 130 acres of lush woodland, gardens, and parkland, offering guests an exceptional escape into its beautiful surroundings and its 58 luxurious bedrooms and 14 treehouses.
The unique eco-friendly treehouse accommodations were the first of their kind in the UK, combining innovation, luxury and secluded bliss with their wrap-around balconies, floor-to-ceiling windows, and breakfast hampers delivered through a secret hatch.
Beyond elegant accommodations, Chewton Glen welcomes guests into its award-winning restaurant and world-class spa. The cuisine at Chewton Glen is a celebration of local produce, underscored by the bounty of its own grounds, including its 70 beehives and its orchard with over 200 heritage fruit trees. The award-winning Dining Room and the Kitchen Cookery School offer guests an immersive culinary experience, with dishes that highlight the freshest ingredients from the hotel’s orchard and surrounding area, maintaining a deep commitment to sustainability and local heritage. A proud member of Relais & Châteaux, Chewton Glen also has the distinction of being the second hotel to have ever joined the association of 580 landmark properties worldwide.
This March, we all celebrated International Women’s Day worldwide and honoured the incredible women who have inspired us and whose work and achievements continue to move us all forward. It was only a few months prior when Anita Bower, the People & Culture Director for Iconic Luxury Hotels - which includes Chewton Glen - was awarded the Woman of the Year Trophy 2024 by Relais & Châteaux and Pommery. Anita has been instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence and well-being among the team at Chewton Glen and throughout the Iconic family of properties through her dedication to team members' well-being and her innovative Talent Development Plans. Under Bower's guidance, the properties have achieved outstanding levels of team retention and have become exemplary employers in the sector. Her efforts have enhanced the guest experience by ensuring a passionate and dedicated team that emphasizes warmth, connection, and community in the spirit of hospitality.
At Wickaninnish Inn, we always share with our team members that it’s the people that make the place. We admire the many ways in which Bower's leadership and Chewton Glen's storied environment together create a hospitality experience that is both deeply enriching and profoundly authentic, embodying the spirit of Relais & Châteaux and setting a benchmark for excellence through their people and culture program. We are delighted to celebrate these achievements and remain inspired by all the incredible work being done by the people that make the place.
