Joy Cabrera, our Housekeeping Team Leader, has been with us for 5 years, uplifting the team with her enthusiasm and positive energy.

Having moved here from the Philippines, she first heard about the Wickaninnish Inn through her husband when he spotted a job opportunity posted for the Inn. Coming from a tropical country, the beaches called to her, and the spirit of Tofino and its welcoming community have made the Island feel like home.

With a background in administration and training, Joy jumped into the world of housekeeping and embraced the challenges and changes that came with it. On a day-to-day basis, her responsibilities include running operations behind the scenes, checking rooms to ensure they are readied to perfection, and collaborating with her colleagues to provide an incredible hospitality experience for our guests.

Teamwork and camaraderie are crucial in every department, and Joy shares that it’s especially important in housekeeping as it can be a demanding and highly physical job. Our housekeeping team is diverse, with many team members joining us from abroad. One of Joy’s favourite parts of her workday is having the opportunity to share her culture and hearing each others’ stories while tending to the rooms.

Beyond life at the Inn, Joy’s great passion is cooking. Whether having loved ones over for dinner or inviting friends for a barbeque on the patio, cooking Filipino comfort food keeps her close to her roots. Filipino barbeque is a favourite, as well as lumpia (various types of spring rolls) and adobo (a quintessential meat stew).

Joy is dedicated to continuous growth and learning, with a great desire to one day expand her housekeeping skillset into other areas. In the future, she hopes to bring her love of cooking to life within the hospitality environment as well.
